Death Metal has really changed from what it was. Until today Death Metal was always something that was meant to be raw and thus had raw production. If you look at the Death Metal of the 80’s and 90’s, you would find this trait in almost every band, be it the really old "Doom" influenced bands like AUTOPSY(who have come up with a new album I believe) and ASPHYX to the faster, more popular bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE and SUFFOCATION. Today however a certain part of Death Metal seems to be going for the really slick, sonically rich production with bands likes THE FACELESS and our very own EXHUMATION, although I do find this a little to adapt to at times as this is something I am not used to, I do enjoy this genre and both THE FACELESS and EXHUMATION are two of my favourite bands, and now so is DISFIGURING THE GODDESS.

There are some Metal sub-genres that Americans simply cannot grasp. Doom Metal, Black Metal & especially Melodic Death Metal among them. But each time I have been proved wrong with bands like EVOKEN, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, GALLOBRAID to name a few. Though they are much less in numbers, yet they can easily match up to their Europian counterparts. One such band is DUSKS EMBRACE, a four piece Melo-Death act from Dallas, US.

MY SLEEPING KARMA released their new album TRI which is a complete mix of cultures and traditions woven into their sound. The 9-track album speaks a lot about the deeply engraved roots of the musicians and also superbly delivers psychedelic melodies in between to make their tracks more engrossing and demanding for attention!

Sludge/Doom Metal is probably my favourite Doom Metal sub-genre, I really like bands such as GRAVES AT SEA, BURNING WITCH and CORRUPTED. I am a sucker for really raw loud guitar riffs, that’s why I got into Metal in the first. So when I found out that I was going to review a band that was something on similar lines I was really excited and called up my friend at one in the morning and told him about to which he wasn’t too enthusiastic about,(obviously you can’t be too enthusiastic at one in the morning). But was all this excitement worth it? Well let’s find out!

When Grindcore first started it was seen as a much more extreme form of Hardcore Punk, which was loud intense and in your face. Recently though, the genre has seen a lot of experimentation, the Progressive Mathcore/Metalcore fusion of FUCK THE FACTS, the electronic textures of THE LOCUST, the somewhat cleaner tone of ROTTEN SOUND and of course Goregrind and Pornogrind with their Brutal Death Metal tendencies. This experimentation took away some of the genres simple direct approach and made it more complex. WORMROT take the genre back to its roots, back to when it all began.
