IMR: How was the response for the album HUMAN RACE as two of your songs were aired on VH1? Is the music scene same as it was before 10 years?
DOL(Chandresh):The response has been phenomenal! People sing our songs and request our songs at our gigs. The song being aired on Vh1 gave us an additional boost. The music scene has definitely changed. The audience has become a lot more open to bands playing originals and a lot of smaller venues have opened up. So it no more happens that 50 bands are vying for that one slot in a year!!
IMR: What does DREAM OUT LOUD try to speak through their music & lyrics? As on one side we have song like ITS RAINING NOW and on other side we have heavier song like HUMAN BEINGS.
DOL(Chandresh):Well this might sound clichéd but we write about what we feel our experiences, emotions etc. So if we feel that the subject of the song requires a mellow arrangement then that’s how it turns out to be.
IMR: Tell us about your upcoming 2nd Album, what it is all about?
DOL(Chandresh):Its called A MOMENT OF WEAKNESS and we are still in the stage of finalizing what tracks go in there. Although I must say It has been a great leap for us creatively.
IMR: Your new songs give a different feel, its heavier and technical as compared to HUMAN RACE, is DOL undergoing a genre change?
DOL(Chandresh):Yeah we are pretty much finding our sound and we are able to express the subject matter a lot more creatively as I said earlier. We don’t really think about the genre while writing songs and leave it upto the people to decide what they want to categorize it under!
IMR: Tell us about the song SOUTH INDIAN BOY, as you guys play it live but its not there in the Album? What was the idea behind this song, as the audiences really enjoy this song?
DOL(Chandresh):The song was written about Suraj’s cousins Father. In an orthodox family music is always looked down upon especially ROCK. So the song talks about what the father feels when he has a son who is rocker! And the song is a funny take on the same... Most youngsters connect with this subject as they go through that almost every other day! The song dint fit into the human race album as the album was very serious and now since there is a huge demand for the song it may be released as a single soon.
IMR: Your favorite song from the Album, the song you enjoyed the most while composing and which is nearest to the style of music you play?
DOL(Chandresh):Well the songs from the new album that have shaped up very well are LABYRINTH, FEET BACK ON THE GROUND.
IMR: I always keep hunting for great bands/records. Please recommend a few that have influenced you or the band as a whole?
DOL(Chandresh):Our main influences have been WHITESNAKE, EXTREME, STEVE VAI, JOE SATRIANI, DREAM THEATRE, SEAL, STING.
IMR: Our reader would really appreciate if you would like to tell us something about your website www.theguitarthing.com?
DOL(Chandresh): I have been teaching personally for a long time now & I always wanted to have a website where I could put up a few lessons and that’s how it all began. The lessons are such that it would help a Guitar player who has stagnated and is looking for a few tips and ideas pertaining to different styles. Now I get a lot of people who want to learn from me once they go through the website. I hope to do a few more videos and put it up in the future.
