Interview: Akshat Vaze(What Google Can't Find)

Akshat_Vaze

IMR: Hello, Akshat Vaze! Okay, so before starting with the interview, it would be great if you could give a brief run-down about the bands origin since younger days?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): WGCF started off as a onetime thing for me and the drummer, Aashish, back last year when it wasn’t a band. We were called to be a part of the instrumentation of a German theatre group known as "Bunte Buehne" which was a part of "Max Mueller Bhavan" here in Pune. So we, I don’t know why, stuck around for a couple of months and we played around. We actually started off as a German cover band. We officially started off in July/ August of 2010.

IMR: Coming onto the name of the band one thing I am really keen to know, what is the specific reason behind naming the band WHAT GOOGLE CAN'T FIND or is it something that strike randomly?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): It was a random shizz that happened between us while waiting backstage, waiting to go up on stage. We were toying around with names like "Satan’s Minions" and shit like that, but WHAT GOOGLE CAN'T FIND really appealed to us.

IMR: Okay, this goes personally to you, what was it that made you decide to be in a band, who was the person who made you pick up your instrument and think, “Fuck, yes! I want to do this”?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): What really made me pick up the bass guitar was when I was listening to METALLICA’s Cliff Burton’s ANESTHESIA(PULLING TEETH). That blew my brains out. I was like “How the FUCK can a bass ever sound like that!!” I couldn’t realize that it was a bass guitar that I was hearing! I listened to that song the whole night! Cliff Burton (R.I.P.) is the sole reason I’m a bassist and hope that I can play even a percentage of what he could play.
As of the question of what inspired to be in a band, I can’t really say. Bands always seem cooler! So I guess the urge of starting and playing in a band comes to everyone who listens to Rock and Metal! Who doesn’t wanna be up on the stage?
We’re also inspired by food! We love food, if you can’t pay us for the gig, atleast give us free food is our motto.

IMR: So who has got the pen and who has got the plectrum in the band (I meant lyricist and composer)?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): Since Saket left (first guitarist) the plectrum has now being handled by Sushant. He’s the one writing most of the songs, coming up with ideas and that stuff. Our new addition to the band, Siddhant Tambe mostly comes up with harmonies and melodies whatever you call ‘em. I’m bad with technical stuff! Arranging of the song structure is done by the whole band together, there’s not one mind going on in the band and the others follow. We all just sit down and play.
The pen is with Ajinkya (Vocals), Sushant and me. We write the lyrics together and come up with vocal melodies.

IMR: As per the current music scene, many of the bands fall into the "Experimental Metal" genre. What are the various flavors of Metal that you guys are experimenting with your sound?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): Its not just Metal for us. Ofcourse, Metal is the core ingredient of the band, but we do experiment with stuff like Blues, Hard Rock, Country, Psychedelic stuff. What we try to do is fuse a lot of elements of different music that we listen to individually and as a band, and shift it around to get that Metal sound.

IMR: Could you please explain in brief for those who haven't heard you guys before, what one can expect from band’s music and gigs?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): I guess for a new band like us, our main aim is and always will be that the audience likes the music we play and enjoy it. As far as making them expect something from our music, maybe its our inclusion of clean vocals as the main vocal harmony in our songs. We now expect the people to accept us, as to how we are.

IMR: Which bands and artists have inspired you in the past and which bands are inspiring you even today?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): Whole lotta bands man! Right from the regulars like METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN, PANTERA, MOTORHEAD, SCORPIONS to LAMB OF GOD, GODSMACK, LIMP BIZKIT, GUNS 'N' ROSES, MESHUGGAH, TESSERACT, KARNIVOOL, CRADLE OF FILTH and the list goes on forever.
Also Rap Music artistes, I know most of the Metal community hates that style of music, but me and Ajinkya enjoy listening to it though!
Speaking of inspiring, I guess we’ve been inspired by a hell lot of Indian bands. DEMONIC RESURRECTION, BHAYANAK MAUT, DEVOID, ZERO, JUNKYARD GROOVE, ALBATROSS, ABRAXAS, NOISEWARE (LULZ). We worship NOISEWARE!

IMR: I’ve heard that currently you are recording your debut EP, so when can the folks expect it to hit the stores?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): Well we are done with the recording, its currently under the mix and mastering stages. Hopefully it will be done soon. Adhiraj Singh of NOISEWARE is producing the EP (ZOMG!). So we can guarantee some excellent recording quality!
The EP will be out by end of September for sure. We’ll be announcing the release date shortly. It will come out with tees so it’ll be a Tee+EP combined merch sorta shizz!

IMR: Can you please shed some light on the stories and themes that are handled on your new album?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): It’s a 3 track EP. The themes running throughout the 3 songs are about abandonment, masked lies and orthodoxy. We’ll played around with social issues, basically on two tracks will suggest that it’s the type of life that we lead and made to live in India and other third world nations as a whole.

IMR: What are the plans of actions after the immediate launch of your debut E.P? Hope you guys looking out for some gigs and promotions as well to help spread your music!
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): We’ll be gigging a lot i.e. if things work out. The promotion is being handled by us as and mainly by Sahil “The Demonstealer” Makhija! So it’s a busy two months for us!

IMR: While trolling over the web, I couldn't find a single track available for the listeners. Now that is really bad, anything coming up soon?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): It’ll be up zoonly. In the couple of weeks itself! Maybe the reason why you couldn’t find any of our tracks is because we never recorded our stuff before! People don’t know us so well cuz we never played any competitions. We didn’t wait to record and release out EP until we become quite popular the scene. So it’s a risk on our side, but I’m sure the people will appreciate our effort and will enjoy the kind of music we have offered them!

IMR: Alright! Apart from music what guys you do (as in study or work somewhere)?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): We’re all logging in college. I’m in BBM, As(s)hish is doing his BBA, Sushan’t in B.com & Ajinkya’s doing his masters in Geology(faint). Siddhant just passed out from enginnering.

IMR: What are your hopes and aspirations for WHAT GOOGLE CAN'T FIND in 2011 and in the coming years?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): Hopes and aspirations for any band is to do excellent and be the best! We also hope that there’s more chicken to eat in whatever gigs we play!

IMR: So, here we come to an end. Thanks for taking time to answer a few questions, and is there anything you want your fans to know about WHAT GOOGLE CAN'T FIND?
Akshat Vaze(WGCF): It’s been an absolute plezzure! First time interview is always a good experience!
I won’t say fans or anything, but for people who haven’t heard us yet, just enjoy our muzac and for people who know us personally and have seen us live, thanks for the support and a wet kiss from Aashish and Sushant!
