IMR: Hi "ILLUMINATI"! It's been a privilege to interview you guys. You must be feeling quite relieved now that your latest E.P "JUKEBOX" is finally released. What is the mood surrounding its release by the band's fan base so far??
ILLUMINATI:
Well people have liked it so far, but it’s been a long time since "JUKEBOX” and we are planning to come out with another E.P with new tracks. Also, we are planning to re-master "JUKEBOX". Hope this time, we'll be able to get even better response.

IMR: Since, now the band "ILLUMINATI" have climbed up the popularity level across the local circuit. Is your collaboration with Alloy Productions limited to the release of E.P "JUKEBOX" or is it going to extend to more full-length albums in the future?
ILLUMINATI:
It is difficult to say anything now; I don’t know what the future holds for us.

IMR: “JUKEBOX" is the band's first E.P release that I came in contact with and I am happy to say that the music really sounds as fresh and powerful. What is the secret behind the success story?
ILLUMINATI:
Well the credit entirely goes to all our parents who have been very supportive right from the start. The E.P was more like a scrap book for us cause we knew after this two of our original band members, Bhushan-Guitars and Thomas-Drums, were not going to be a part of our band as they had to achieve their educational goals and would be moving to different countries. This E.P keeps us together, it’s like a piece of our memory our 3 years spent together in college.

IMR: What does the name “ILLUMINATI” signify? You guys started just as an underground college, how did things flow onto your shore?
ILLUMINATI:
The name “ILLUMINATI” directly means “the enlightened ones”. This name was suggested to us by a very close friend of ours. Coming from a college like ours, it was very difficult to keep things going, lack of support and giving our dreams or achievements a blind eye was a very regular practice. Again, it’s only because of our parent’s support we have been able to achieve what we have achieved today.

IMR: Who writes the lyrics for the band? Do you try to fit the lyrics to the music or the music to the lyrics? What are the mechanics of your song-writing?
ILLUMINATI:
I write the lyrics to all our songs, each and every song of ours in a way or other connects all of us. Also, most of our songs are real life experiences. We don’t have to try to fit lyrics to the music or vice versa, it’s the connection that we have as a band that makes the music and the lyrics flow out in a single stream.

IMR: Does the band normally enjoy being in the studio? Any funny/weird moments that you would like to describe which were associated with the recordings of "JUKEBOX"?
ILLUMINATI:
Well, we have had good times in the studio; let me correct myself “great” times in the studio. The most funny moments that, I can think of and always will is our walk from the studio to this small restaurant called “uncle kitchen” where we had lunch for like six days. I really miss those times, the cheap tableware, the awesome food everything.

IMR: Two of the soul originals that really left a remarkable impression on me were "Fly away" and the crazy track "My Friend Jack". Can you tell us in a few words how these two compositions came to existence?
ILLUMINATI:
"Fly away" is this feeling, I felt once when, I was sitting on my roof, and thinking of good times and how so fast they fly away.”My Friend Jack" has a huge history behind it, to start of with it was composed in my Ex-drummer “Thomas's” car right outside my guitarist's place, in this song “Jack Daniel's” our favourite whisky has been personified. The idea came to us, when on one of our out station gigs, I ended up drinking an entire bottle of “Jack Daniel's” and that is when the song started to take shape in our heads.

IMR: Bangalore is quite famous for producing more of Metal bands from the past, coming up with "Rock'n'Roll" genre is quite an innovative idea, how did that work for the band. Each of your songs seems to convey some sort of message. How do you come up with the material?
ILLUMINATI:
Well, it was a little difficult for us at the start but, later, it was fine because more and more people started listening to our music, also our music is such that any lay man can connect to it that is the only reason we have been able to survive as a band. Most of the times, we pick out issues that need to be conveyed to people and haven’t been conveyed properly, like our song "Use Protection", it talks about a very important social issue. The only thing, we do is convey it in a way which no one has ever thought of before. Also, we sometimes have to bring it down to such a crude level that no one faces any difficulty in understanding. We also believe in making our songs sound very original as well as catchy so, that people don’t have any difficulty in remembering them.

IMR: It’s quite a commercial risk for a label to sign a band that plays such an unusual style of music. Was it difficult to get signed? What about audiences? Have you played much live and how is the crowd response so far?
ILLUMINATI:
We are not yet signed. “Alloy Productions” was only a one time project. We always believe in playing live, talking bout the crowd response well one has to experience it to know it.

IMR: Everything, what you've done during your musical career to date, is there any times that are particularly memorable?
ILLUMINATI :
Every show, we have played is like a trophy for us, winning or loosing doesn’t really matter to us, everyday we get up and pray to experience something really magnificent to happen on stage and it does happen and we pray for more. All thanks to the lord above who has made every moment spent with the band memorable.

IMR: Looking at your list of previous gigs, it seems that you've conquered whole of the Bangalore and you're on your way to victory path over the other zones. Are there any particular countries in which you would love to play? Are there any other mainstream bands you would really like to share the stage with?
ILLUMINATI:
Well, there are a lot of countries, we would like to play in but, first we want to create a stand a foundation in India. Coming onto sharing the stage with a band, to start of with "Thermal and A Quarter" from Bangalore and "Parikrama" from Delhi is what we wish.

IMR: What are your plans for the immediate future and how far do you think the band "ILLUMINATI" can evolve, taking into consideration the current state of the music industry?
ILLUMINATI:
We believe in going with the flow, and talking about evolution well like Darwin says 'Survival Of The Fittest” and for that evolution is a must.

IMR: I hope that the band sticks to their original style and the new songs follow the same themes as the rest or will the band branch out according to the label in the future?
ILLUMINATI:
No, the band will stick to what the band likes to play and what the people like to hear.

IMR: Is there any other entity going on with the band in recent times that you'd like to pass along to our readers?
ILLUMINATI:
Sometime, in the fall of 2008, the band is going to be opening for “Def Leppard” in Bangalore, so guys watch out for us.

IMR: Once again, thank you for doing this interview with Team IMR. I hope that "JUKEBOX" gets loads of good reviews because that's what it truly deserves!
ILLUMINATI:
Thank you, God bless!!!

* Team IMR wishes "ILLUMINATI" for all their success and hopes that the band comes up with bright colors in the future!!!

Metakix - Interview

Published in Interviews Written by Pravin

IMR :Hello "METAKIX”! Greetings from Team IMR. Long time nothing to hear from your end, how are the things going on at your campaign?
METAKIX(Viresh) :
Hi, Yeah it’s been long time. Things are running a bit slow with the band since our bassy Nicky has quit. We are auditioning people for the job and will lock on someone who we think is good enough to replace him.

IMR :"METAKIX" sounds to be a quite distinct name, let us know what does it signify? How the band did came together and gives a brief introduction about each one of you?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
Well Meta-signifies a state of transition and Kix- signifies a rush of adrenaline through the mind inspiring us with our music. The band has been around for more than 12years. We had whole lot of line-up changes, but the current line-up has been strong since 2004. I met the band 5 years back in 2003 through a common friend. Nicky & Sheldy joined together a year after and within a month played our first website Launch gig.
Nicky:Is a very sensitive person and has a mad & wild streak in him. He is unpredictable and can be manipulated easily. He listens to a lot of thrash metal, trance and has been the youngest in the band. I would say he is an excellent Bass player and we will miss working with him in the band.
Sheldon :Is the groove and power of our music. A very easy going kind of guy to get along with, he has adjusted himself to the cruelties and exploitation from me and zombJ. He essentially started off as a saxophone player and then switched to drums. His influences include death metal and classic rock bands.
Zomb:Has been there since the beginning and shows a lot of patience and perseverance. He is attached to the band very emotionally. He has a classical background and prefers to listen to a lot of thrash metal bands.
Me: I think I am a dreamer and will keep doing things without knowing what lies at the other end. I can influence people around me in a positive way and don’t get manipulated by things. You cannot know if I am in my best or worst mood since I am very indifferent. My confidence and belief is my strength and my music is my biggest inspiration. I listen to almost everything like heavy metal, thrash metal, classic rock, alternative, Jazz, Blues, Folk, New age, Hardcore, Progressive and Indian music.

IMR :Today "METAKIX" have acquired a strong fan-base not only in India but also in many of the foreign countries. Let us know how much did the band slogged, any transformations, challenges etc in younger days?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
Its been a great five years, almost like an amazing & rough roller coaster ride. We have gone through a whole lot of transformations as musicians & as a person. We have seen it all & made up our own conclusion about how we understand each other and the music we choose to play and get inspired from. We have accomplished a lot in these years and a lot of that credit goes to our fans, friends, family & supporters, they all mean a lot to us. There have been a lot of challenges in our life’s and in our musical journey as a band which has made us stronger.

IMR :Our readers are very much eager to know about your musical priority? Looking at each one of your experiences, what kind of lyrics and music you try to embed in your compositions?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
I believe our music has always been very versatile and strong. It shapes according to different moods and phases of life we go through. We put our heart and soul into our songs which reflects in it. We do not try to follow a certain pattern or thought process, which gives us the extra edge of experimenting and evolving with our music. Everyone one in the band holds a lot of experience and influences the sound and nature of the music along with the band in a very unique way. We are working on some new bone chilling material which is heavier & very unique from what we have ever done before.

IMR :Musically you people sound quite unique than many of the other Indian bands, let us know from which all Indian/Foreign bands you draw your major influences?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
We grew up listening to rock n roll, metal, classic rock, folk music, Indian classical, jazz and blues. There draw our influences from a whole lot of bands like black Sabbath, metallica, sepulture, Kreator, pantera, ozzy, dream theater, Alice in Chains, etc etc.

IMR :Which was the remarkable gig with a maximum metal heads attendance you had until now through your entire unstoppable journey, what was the response that you had generated? Any special moments you would like to share?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
There have been way too many memorable gigs which we always cherish to remember. Some of my favorite gigs were at IIT-Roorkee to a 15000 strong army of metal heads which was covered & aired by channel[V] and at MCC, Chennai to a mad & wild crowd of 10000 rockers. The response was tremendous and overwhelming. We had a blast doing both the gigs and relish a lot of good memories from it.

IMR :Which is the best venue that you always love to play or any dream place where "METAKIX" would die to perform?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
There are a lot of venues we would love to play. I would love to play at the Wacken Festival in Germany and my dream is to play at Wembley stadium, London to a 100 thousand strong.

IMR :"METAKIX" have been touring India and abroad quite frequently, are you satisfied with the progress that the extreme bands are making in the Rock and Metal scenario? What is the difference among the listeners and why do Asian countries lag behind in the music scene?
METAKIX (Sheldon) :
Touring like always has been amazing. Different people every where. We had great fun & countless amazing memories at all the gigs. Metal in Asia is definitely picking progress towards an amazing phase. Metal heads in India and the rest of Asia are all different and they all take music differently. I would say that Metal is not really lagging but is going towards full power. There is some amazing metal coming from entire Asia.

IMR :Now coming to your debut album "HEADLINES" and "CONNECT AND INSPIRE”, could you tell us something about the releases? What is the concept behind the album and what message did band try to convey through your albums, describe in brief? How strongly do you support original music?
METAKIX (Sheldon) :
Both the albums have their own meanings. Can't tell much about the first album as I was not around during the making. Talking about "Connect & Inspire", we worked on the album for around a year & half and it came out the way we wanted it to. The entire album talks about our lives and how it has made a change towards us and I am sure it will change a lot of lives. We totally support original music. Original music defines a band and what they are all about. Doing cover tracks is fun till a point of time when u r still growing with your music but towards the end it doesn't really mean much to anybody.
We have had Colossus - a band from Bombay that covers one of our track. In fact it will absolutely be great if Indian bands cover local bands. It will surely make a big change to the entire music scenes in India.

IMR :We would like to know why do the crowd run behind and accommodate their asses for a foreign band gig, instead we have many of the most desirable and talented bands like "INDIAN OCEAN","PARIKRAMA","DEMONIC RESURRECTION","ORANGE STREET" ,"PIN DROP VIOLENCE","MILLENIUM"etc ?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
I don’t agree with that. It depends on a lot of factors. Every gig is a new experience and it doesn’t matter if the band is from India or abroad. I think what makes a strong audience is the Band’s music, the name they have in the market, the fan base, the way the band is promoted, the way the gig is promoted, venue, the popularity of the festival or event, the ticket prices, mass media, electronic media, etc. I think the audiences for Rock/Metal Music in India are increasing every year but as I said it all depends on the above factors. So in the end of the day a good band will always have a good crowd irrespective of the place they belong to.

IMR :What "METAKIX" would like to go for "Entertainment”, “Fun" or "Money" on the musical ground? Why?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
I think it’s all connected to one another in some way. I personally would go for Entertainment & fun.
METAKIX (Sheldon) :Would be for Entertainment, because we love what we do and for all the people we do it for. As musicians Entertaining people is very important and that’s what matters.

IMR :"CONNECT AND INSPIRE" received a great local and international response and the album was endorsed by some of the major big shots like SEPULTURA's (Andreas & Derrick) and KREATOR's (Mille). How was the feeling?
METAKIX (Viresh) :
It felt incredible and very overwhelming. Being endorsed by the bands we grew up listening to was a great feeling of joy and accomplishment.

IMR : For every major event in India, there has to be some or the other issues with the venue or atlas it comes to culture..."WTF". Who is responsible for this according to you? As a Rock or Metal fan what steps would you take to overcome these things?
METAKIX (Sheldon) :
There is always ups and downs at every venue, but normally it shouldn't matter much. There is just one main Issue, the Sound. Every band needs good sound, as it plays a very important role on the bands performance. Not every body would try to see how good the bad was while performing but will instead see how was the sound and then would try to judge the band and that’s what mainly messes it up for couple of bands. The best will be that there shouldn't be any comprises made when it comes to sound.

IMR :You people have a long way to go on, but where do you see "METAKIX" from now in the near future? Any message to Team IMR/Bands/Metal heads before we close down our shutter?
METAKIX (Sheldon) :
No body can predict what is going to happen tomorrow. We are definitely aiming for a lot and  we know that we can, its just the matter of time. We are looking forward to perform for gigs abroad.

For IMR : Thanks for your great work and helping Metal Music & bands come together.

For Bands : Good work guys, keep the originals coming the world is waiting for it.

For Fans : As always You'll have been great. Thanks so much for all the support that you'll have showed. Hope to see you'll at all the gigs. Rock on \m/

METAKIX (Viresh) : The sky is the limit for us. We will continue making great inspiring music in future and try to create a positive and strong influence on people through our music. We are looking forward for gigging all the big venues abroad as much as we can. IMR- Keep up the amazing work of promoting Indian bands and supporting their existence. You guys deserve a lot of credit for the uprising of all the Metal bands in India. Bands – Do your thing and keep it going, don’t give up. No one can do it for you but only you can. If u think you have a genius artist in you, just let it come out and follow your dreams. Metal Heads – Thanks a ton for all the support and good wishes. Be ready to band that head on the next gig. Metal rulz \m/

* It was really our pleasure spending time with you people, good luck for the future. Thanking you Team IMR!!!

Pravin Prajapati (LordMessiah)

IMR : Hails "3rd SOVEREIGN”! Firstly, thanks for taking time out for this interview, what’s the latest news from the "3rd SOVEREIGN's" camp? For our visitors, can we have a brief introduction of all the members?
3rd Sovereign:
Right now we’ve been working on a four song project which is going to be released in the US. The current line up of the band: Vedant-vocals, Vicky-Bass, Benjamin-Guitars, Reuben-drums.

IMR :Who came up with the idea of starting an extreme metal project? Did, band have certain hiccups in the line - up during the initial phase and do you think that the band has finally found a consistent and brutal bandwagon now? How did you people manage to still keep it alive as "3rd Sovereign”?
3rd Sovereign :
We couldn’t start off straight with extreme metal cause we can’t play. It’s tough J. We started with rock and thrash, whatever we can play, depends on the skills that we achieved. As we progress, we grew brutal and more intense and here we are now. Line up changes caused a lot of problems in the band, slowed down the progress of the band. The current line up is good enough to prove our music to anybody, anywhere, but nothing’s perfect. And right now the band experiences different kinds of hardships, lots of problems in and out of the band. Somehow the band is still alive by the grace of God, support by the fans (we are here because of you), friends and families.

IMR :The name sounds quite unique, but more like a Black Metal band. What is the reason behind keeping the name as "3rd Sovereign”?
3rd Sovereign :
Nothing’s behind the name, 3rd Sovereign= Us, that’s it.

IMR :Can you let us know how the metal scene in the eastern zone of our country is as I have heard that the numbers of bands out there are more than rest of the India?
3rd Sovereign :
No comment, I really don’t know.

IMR :You people sound close to the very famous Death Metal band called "Cannibal Corpse" according to all the metal heads. What would you like to say about it? What is unique about your music in comparison to them, list out some of your favorite albums?
3rd Sovereign :
Maybe! I don’t know and I don’t care. There’s already too much that can sound alike, even if you think about something out by yourself and put into music, still it might sound like something that you might not even have heard, just like that. Whatever comes into our head has been translated into music, that’s the fun. And that’s how we work these days. Even if we had one new riff, then sit down and continue with the rest that has to come, depends on the idea. You don’t have to copy any other music that has already been there, that you’ve already heard, think something by yourself and do it in your own way and that’s you. No more wannabe. And that’s us 3rd Sovereign J. My Favorite albums?? Hmm. Here we go:- Vile – Cannibal Corpse, Arise – Sepultura, The end Complete – Obituary, Scars of the Crucifix – Deicide, Lightning Strikes – Loudness, Balls to the Wall – Accept, Mean machine – UDO, Necroticism – Carcass, And justice for all – Metallica, Seasons in the Abyss – Slayer, Countdown to Extinction – Megadeth, Years Of Decay – Overkill ……. There’s too many.

IMR :As far as your lyrics is concerned, how much pain and hatred you try to include, list down some of your Indian/Foreign influences in Death/Black metal bands, both contemporary and legendary? If you would be ask to cover any Indian Band, which one would you like to cover?
3rd Sovereign :
Earlier, Jonah and I used to write the lyrics. And yeah, pain and hatred was the main subject as we dealt with the real world. We didn’t write things like chopping you to pieces, eating rotten flesh or some of the weirdest dreams about hell. I’d just write down what I feel about the world, my surroundings, corruption, and fake religions, negative influences of societies, family problems and such. No one has influenced my writings in person. And now Vedant writes the lyrics, we still sit together for the subjects; we still deal with the real world, ‘The life of Mortal’.
And that Indian Band would be Undying Inc.

IMR :When you people completed recording with your first number "Face of Despair”, how was the feeling? After that "3rd SOVEREIGN" has successfully climbed up the popularity ladder in India, even though not many sponsors have encouraged Death Metal music? Why is the reason behind that?
3rd Sovereign :
The feeling was great; we did something for the first step, that’s great. Today we’re here by the grace of God who gave us fans, friends and families, without which the band would be disband long ago. We don’t consider ourselves popular, but we have suffered and worked really hard to prove ourselves again and again, as it may be live performance or maybe recording. We have to give the best out of ourselves each and every time. There’s also one friend of mine, TAMULA, who is most responsible for me to be here, doing what I’m doing right now.

IMR :Can you tell us something about the EP "Horrified Vision" and the full length album "Destined to Suffer" in brief?
3rd Sovereign :
Horrified Visions was recorded in 2005 with the line up of Mala-vocals, Anshuman-Guitars, Jonah-Bass, Reuben-drums. The drum was recorded in Aizawl at Vega recording Studio, rest of the works were done in Delhi in our studio under the production of Chhaino. It was a four song EP. The songs were- Horrified Visions, Everlasting Burn, Suicidal Corpse and Destined to Suffer, and it was released under Demonstealer records. The full length ‘Destined to Suffer’ was recorded in 2007, in our studio (Studio 9/a), again with Chhaino, and it was released under Demonstealer records. The line up for this album was - Vedant-Vocals, Benjamin-Guitars, Jonah-Bass, Reuben-Drums. The songs were-Destined to suffer, Life of mortal, Necrophobia, Suicidal Corpse, Dying Sun, Gathering of lies, Victimized, Pathetic Ignorance, and Funeral rites.

IMR :How was the response for the full length album "Destined to suffer”? What's next, are you people planning to record the next album and what it will be a full length or an EP?
3rd Sovereign :
The response was great; it is now sold under Comatose label, in the US as well. We have already started working on the next project which is going to be released as a compilation with 3 more bands from abroad, also a compilation with Indian metallers Acrid Semblance and Undying Inc. After that will be the 2nd full length. We’ve already had enough materials for the full length and it’s only a matter of time to bring it out.

IMR :Many of the bands leave their musical journey because it is hard to make money out of playing extreme music and survive in the field, what would you like to say about it? Is each one of you a full-time musician or you people have your own personal obligations?
3rd Sovereign :
True, that is one of the biggest problems. I don’t even make enough money playing extreme music to earn my daily bread (ha ha). That’s why I have been working as a music instructor, and that’s the only way for me to keep on going with music, to do what I want. No matter what, I have to do something to survive. If we do something else which is out of music, that’s the day the band will start to fall. That’s why I don’t want to do anything else which doesn’t have any relation with music. And for me, for the time being, this really helps and plays an important role in the survival of the band.

IMR :There isn’t lack of talent in India for sure , but even though why do you think there are no media coverage’s for all the big events in India and no reality talent hunt shows for the metal scene ? Are there any more underground bands, but deserving bands in your circuit?
3rd Sovereign :
Yes, talent is there for sure but what we need is perfection, I think this is what we lack. And about the underground bands, I really have no idea.

IMR :Most of the bands in India are Death Metal why not Black/Doom/Gothic/Depressive, why is it so? How many years you think from now, it will take for the metal scene to establish its base in our country. Why?
3rd Sovereign :
What is death metal? Who plays death metal in India? It’s not just about distortion, screaming or growling. Like I mentioned before, without perfection, there’s no death metal. So, now who are the bands that you’ve mentioned that play death metal? I don’t see such bands around.

IMR :Tell us something about the best gig you had until now, how does the crowd support boost you up to perform as a pure Brutal Death Metal band? From the starting of your journey you guys got immense appreciation for your music, is there any destination that the band wants to achieve and hang up their boots?
3rd Sovereign :
That has to be IIT, Delhi, back in 2004. The original line up of the band played there. Although we didn’t win anything, we get great response out there though, which drives us to go deeper into the extreme metal. And that was the real starting point for the band to keep on going to be pure death metal band. Destination?? No idea, obviously much more than what is happening with the band right now! We give the best out of us and we don’t know where this thing is going to land us, but we know there’s something out there for us. That is the fun out of it. We are spontaneous but not random.

IMR & 3rd Sovereign :

What would you go for ::
1. Death Metal/Black Metal/Depressive Metal ---
Death Metal
2. Demonic Resurrection/BlackHole Theory/Narsil ---
Narsil
3. I-Rock/GIR/Resurrection ---
Resurrection
4. Brutal/Technical/Grind core ---
Brutal
5. MTV/Channel V/Vh1(All of them suck to the core anyways) ---
Vh1(Maybe!)

IMR :Now the space is all yours, what message you would like to convey to everyone attached to the musical scene?
3rd Sovereign :
Thank you for your time. Stay true, keep the metal alive. A Big Thank you from 3rd Sovereign Team (www.3rdsovereign.com).

* Thank you "3rd SOVEREIGN" for the interview, hopes to see you guys soon in Mumbai. Team IMR wishes you good luck for the future.

Kastadyne - Interview

Published in Interviews Written by Pravin

IMR (Pravin): Hello "KASTADYNE”! At last you people are out with your debut album “ELEVEN COMPLAINTS”. So how is the feeling?
TEJAS (TJ):
It's awesome! It took us almost 4 years to create this album and it feels fantastic to see it in stores and on the web.
SHELDON: It feels good... we've got a lot of good response.

IMR (Pravin): First of all, let us know what does "KASTADYNE" mean? Give a brief introduction about all of them and how did the project came together?
TJ:
This is one of the first questions people ask when they come to know about us. We wanted a unique band name. So one of our friends played around with words and came up with Kastadyne. Just sounds cool, lol!
SHELDON: Its just an array of words scrambled together in order to form an extremely unique word. When you log on to google and type ‘kastadyne’ you get about 1800 links all directed to us.

IMR (Pravin): Never heard "KASTADYNE" performing in any of the gigs, is it just a studio project? Why?
TJ:
The band actually started out with just me and Sheldon. He wrote and I composed. The entire first album was recorded at my home studio. After releasing it, we decided to go live. But we played a couple of shows only to return to the studio. The songs we make have many instruments and often up to 5 guitars playing at the same time. This coupled with the fact that sound systems at local gigs are pathetic, we decided to remain a studio project for now while having a good presence on the web.
SHELDON: We do perform occasionally. Big & small gigs. But we love what we can do in the studio, man. We get OUR sound - the way we want it.

IMR (Pravin): Give a brief introduction about your debut album "ELEVEN COMPLAINTS"
SHELDON:
Eleven Complaints speaks about revolution at a personal, social & political level.
TJ: As I said, it took us 4 years to make the album, so some of the material in the songs actually changed as time went by. We had so much fun making this album because we experimented with so many different sounds and song styles. I think the most radical of them would have to be the last track, "Rat Race" since we recorded vocals and made it sound like a reverse flute. You'll find that none of the songs have anything in common, they're all different and we love this album for that.

IMR (Pravin): Lyrically, you people are just out of the world. Who writes lyrics for the project and how do you focus yourself to write such beautiful and thoughtful lyrics?
SHELDON:
I write about what touches me the most. Hence they are songs I have something to speak about. I started writing when i was in the 9th standard :)
TJ: Sheldon writes all the lyrics. He's a genius. Many times when I am laying down a bass track and I find that the lyrics are too short, Sheldon can add more lines to verse or chorus without losing meaning or making it muddy. Crazy talent!

IMR (Pravin): "ELEVEN COMPLAINTS”, the debut album is all about political issues, awareness etc, but not what our Indian Bollywood crowd is addicted. What do you think - how many hearts you will able to reach by these complaints?
SHELDON:
We're trying our best to reach out to everyone, across india and as well as the world. The web makes this possible today.
TJ: Neither of us were ever interested in anything to do with Bollywood. Our songs are about what really happens in everyday life, all the hardships and happiness. Indian Rock has always had a relatively small audience, and we are carving a niche within that for ourselves. The support and interest is growing, though. So it's only a matter of time.

IMR (Pravin): Let us know, if you people are planning to release a video for your album as it would boost the album promotion. If yes, for which track you will make a video and what it would be like?
SHELDON:
Yeah, in fact, we already made a music video for ‘Victim of my Anger’. It will be aired soon. We are working on some more vids in the meanwhile. Basically we intend to reach out to many people as possible & fulfill our producer’s desire to dominate the world with quality music :)
TJ: Our video for ‘Victim of my Anger’ is set in the lush hills of Karjat (outside Mumbai). It should be out on TV soon. It’s quite intense. Just another way to reach out.

IMR (Pravin): Which are the instruments that “KASTADYNE" uses for their sound production?
TJ:
Kastadyne records in Studio B, with all the latest equipment.

Ibanez SA series Guitar

Ibanez BTB Bass Guitar

Samick Guitar

Ovation OP30 Semi-Solid Guitar

Samick Bass Guitar

Fender Rumble Bass Amp

Line6 Spider Amp

Line6 X3 Processor

Protools Software

Digidesign 002

Presonus Preamp

Dynaudio Monitors

And mics by Shure, Rode, Brauner, M-Audio and Sennheiser

Not to mention, the countless software plug-ins from Waves, McDSP, Massey, URS, etc.

IMR (Pravin): List down some of your major Indian/Foreign influences from whom you draw inspiration?
SHELDON:
Tool, Porcupine Tree, LimpBizkit, Perfect Circle, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rage against the Machine, Korn, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. etc.

IMR (Pravin): Which is the Record Label that you people have signed up for releasing “ELEVEN COMPLAINTS”? Is that true that the album have been mixed and mastered mostly in Germany?
SHELDON:
We self-released the album. Yes the songs were mastered in Germany but mixed here by Da Producer (Narayan Kumar).
TJ: The album is an indie effort. All the tracks have been recorded and mixed in Studio B. Only the final stage of Mastering was done in Germany by XARC to bring the songs to commercial quality.

IMR (Pravin): Which was the first track that you people recorded along with your project, how was the feeling?
SHELDON:
The first track that we composed & recorded was ‘I Don’t Know Why’.
TJ: ‘I Don’t Know Why’ is a very simple song with a hook and has a special place for us because we have discarded a lot of songs and this one has always stayed.

IMR (Pravin): Most of the Indian bands go out for Death/Black/Heavy metal bands that are what the scenario demands. What made you choose Nu-Age as your musical genre?
SHELDON:
Why be like most bands and do the usual stuff... we're mainly influenced by alternative & nu-age rock. So we tried our best to come up with some thing truly original that falls in these categories.
TJ: Both of us always liked music that could make a band stand apart from the crowd. And we never found this in death metal. We never decided what genre to play. In fact it took us a long time playing before we could figure what our genre was.

IMR (Pravin): List out some points, why are we lagging behind in the music scenario even though we have plenty of well deserving bands?
TJ:
There are tons of good bands in India! It's just that people are used to certain heavyweights in Indian Rock, so it's tough to find a good gig to play at. There are always many gigs for upcoming bands and they really don't get the best of equipment for such shows.
SHELDON: It’s the audience that they reach out to. We should know no borders and try our best to reach out to the whole world.

IMR (Pravin): So, until now how is the review for the debut album "ELEVEN COMPLAINTS” and are you planning up for the next full length album . What it would be like?
SHELDON:
Eleven Complaints received spectacular response & still is... we're currently working on our second album and will keep on making music for ever... our second album is even more power packed.
TJ:  It's been received very well. We've already sold many of the songs online and one of the Planet-M shops Mumbai actually ran out of stock. We've already started work on a second album, and the songs are more clear in terms of what we want to convey.

IMR (Pravin): Any message that you’d like to give to Team IMR and all your fans out there around the globe?
SHELDON:
We'd like to thank team IMR and all our Kastadyne fans for all their support & their faith in our music. To all who've not been anointed Kastaholics yet, go get your self a copy of Eleven Complaints.

IMR:  How did the project "BLIND IMAGE" come up together? Would you like share something about your beginning days?
BlindImage:
Yes, Krishna (Drummer) met this young guitar genius during a show when "Prashant" aka "Demattio" was playing comfortably numb by "Pink Floyd" after which they had a talk about music and got to know each other. Later "Krishna" gave a call and then "Prashant" and "Krishna" jammed "Master of puppets" by" Metallica" and "Tornado of souls", which felt good. Then during the search for other band members they jammed with many people and after many line up changes they found a bassist "Shricharan" who was Krishna’s friend for 4 years and the most committed member of the band since he left his house in Mumbai and decided to stay in "Chennai" for the band. After trying out many vocalists the band found the "Whako" aka "David Simon" who completed the thrash identify of the band. And then the blind image line up was stabilized. Since then they have been burning every stage on which they play, with their heavy stuff. Presently they are working on an album which is expected by the year end or latest by Feb. 2008. Mean while they will be playing more live shows.

IMR: What is the concept behind the name "BLIND IMAGE”?
BlindImage:
An image being a portrayal or a replication of things that we hear and see around us within our hearts and minds, things that are sometimes too real for comfort, facts that are too hard to swallow. And hence once in a while we tend to purposely hide such uncomfortable images away, blinding them from our vision to satisfy our own sense of vanity. These images become our blind images, representations of the devil within us all.

IMR:  If I am not wrong you guys are about to release an album somewhere in June. Let us know when it is going to be released, I am really very much excited about it and I think so is everybody? Would you like to tell us something about the album?
BlindImage:
Yeah, the albums are metal with experimental touch and thrash bass and groove bass. We have aimed to make the sound of the album really dynamic. All the songs have come out will. The album will be having a ballad also. And a small interlude called SAY NO MORE. The songs in the album are:Skin, Psycho babble, Shit happens, Read my lips, MOB Anthem, Effigy, Say no more and Kiss of anarchy.
The album had title, but then we have decided to change it... so we will soon, update u guys with the title.  .. The album is very contemporary and unique. The lyrics are like from sex to politics to about life to girl friend dumping... The song effigy is about, a guys standing in the twin tower during the crash and analyzing how to die, either jump off or get burnt with the building... it has turned out very well... and skin is about sex.. lol. Well sex is an important part of life...lol... psycho babble is about, a random promise by politicians, kiss of anarchy is about “Let me go, set me free, kiss of anarchy” (girlfriend) u get the concept J….. Say no more is about life again... read my lip is also philosophical. So lyrics are pretty interesting... all the songs are catchy.

IMR: You guys sound to be more like legendary bands Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica etc. Nodoubt many of the metal-heads like heavy metal stuff, but why not something original?
BlindImage:
Well, We are not like our influence. am sure of that... That’s the opinion ppl had when we just started because initially all bands play like their influences...  Now its original contemporary sound. Every note played composed is original, contemporary and carved out like a sculpture... We are very confident about that... Megadeth is our influence... that’s all... but We don sound like any of our influences... Am sure the Blind image has evolved to give a new sound a real fresh and GROOVY ONE.  So Its blind image the original and contemporary now… J u will be seeing that in the ALBUM.

IMR: Let us know how is the metal scene out there in “CHENNAI any more underground bands around your local circuit in the black/death/heavy metal genre, which are much, appreciated by the crowd?
BlindImage:
Metal scene in Chennai is Little bad only... but its increasing. There are ppl who takes effort to improve the scene... but right now it’s bad in chennai. But many other bands are coming up now... More death metal I must say… But crowd here is bad and still slowly improving.

IMR: I still remember the first time, when I saw you guys performing live at the "MUSICIANS MALL"(Mumbai). You guys almost had the crowd with the way every one of you was involved and hats off to your energy level. What you would like to say about it how was the experience?
BlindImage:
Oh, Musician mall is like an evergreen memory. We can’t forget that day... We played for an Awesome and energetic crowd. I must accept that, it’s one of the best gigs that we have played for sure... It was so awesome and a fabulous gig. Crowd sang along for every original and covers. What can make a band more happy than to see the crowd singing there originals. Mumbai crowd is crazy and we love it... We love to play in Mumbai as many times as possible. It’s a wonderful place with wonderful crowd. Mumbai rocks. We will come there and release the album soon.

IMR: List down some of your Indian/International major influences that really inspired you to enter the music stream?
BlindImage:
Megadeth, Metallica, Freak Kitchen, Pantera, Slayer, Lamb of god, Pink Floyd, rush, The WHO, Dave Mathews band, Queensryche, Meshuggah. Jazz artist like: Frank gambale, Dave weckle, Chickorea, Ron thal, Shawn lane, Guthri govan , Guitar Prasana , Steve Vai , Joe Satriani.
Indian bands we like , Moksha, Joint family, Zero, Pentagram.

IMR: Recently, you guys had shared the stage with one of India's famous band “METAKIX”. How was the feeling?
BlindImage:
Yeah it was good. It was a nice gig. Had loads of fun.

IMR: Have you guys participated anytime in any of the talent hunt shows (Yes or No)? Why?
BlindImage:
By Talent show you mean  COMPETITION ? Well we ve participated in very few competiton and won like underground 07 etc. The main point is , we don believe in the concept of competition. We feel that , its absurd to judge bands which are different.. every band is different. U cant really judge, all are good in their own way. I think instead having  competitions , they should have more open festivals in which all bands can play , that will be a great platform for all bands and its awesome fun.. We find the idea of competition , really  stupid.. so we don participate in competition. We concentrate on Professional shows only.

IMR: What do you think, do we have to adapt ourselves into the western culture to step in the Rock and Metal music?
BlindImage:
Not really , WE can be ourself. Music dose not belong to any one.. its for all.. Just because , we play music which was originated in west, it dose not mean that we have to force our self to the culture. Its jus my opinion. and NOTHING WRONG IF YOU WANT TO FOLLOW THE WESTERN CULTURE ALSO> Its ones wish.. Every one has their life to life. And they live the way they want to . WE are no one to say anything about it.

IMR: Which is the record label that you people are going for, and are you making video for the album as it is very much important from the promotional aspect? Are you making the album available in all the 4 - zones?
BlindImage:
Well,. We are sending the album to few international labels like, century media , nuclear blast, metal blades etc. and we all have to wait and see what happens after that.
And yeah , we will be making a video . not sure when. And yeah we will be releasing in all 4 zones . we are working on release gig  in all the four zones. So yeah , it will be avail in all 4 zones.

IMR: According to you , what role do these music related websites supporting Indian bands play in focusing the bands potential and making them familiar in each of the zones for setting up a fan base ?
BlindImage:
They play a very important role.. they are doing a great job in supporting bands and spreading the bands music. Publicity is important for all bands.  It’s a great initiative.. hope it grows and continues.

IMR: Describe "BLIND IMAGE" in one sentence?
BlindImage:
Well , I’ l describe in one word. Contemporary.

IMR: What message would you like to convey to all your fans out there across the country?
BlindImage:
We take this opportunity to thank all the fans for supporting us all this time... And we will deliver more music for you ppl….. We love you all and  thank you again… See you soon with our new album .

Keep head banging \m/  .

* Thank you "BLINDIMAGE" , hope that you guys recieve a very good response for your album across the globe . All the best from team IMR !!!
