Moonlighting like Qazi

VIRESH SAYS,"As a musician my role in both the bands is totally different. In Radius, I am the more relaxed, funky, jazzed up kind of person. While in Metakix, I am a fully charged
powerful, aggressive and extremely energetic kind of person ..."Transitions are never a piece of cake and all the more when they concern an artiste switching genres. After having the country head bang itself to madness as part of Metakix, city guitarist Viresh Qazi is all set to switch gears when he plays with Delhi-based act, Radius. The five-piece band does not herald one genre; rather it can best be described as a melange of five talented session players dabbling with almost every style that the book has. Speaking on the new venture, Qazi says, "The charm is that with Radius, I will be exploring different genres like jazz, Indian fusion and the likes. More than anything it's the vibe that I get when I play with the band, which is a high. All I want to do right now is roam the country with Radius and do as many gigs as possible. The fact that the band plays no particular genre is a very exciting aspect as an artiste."

An accomplished soloist and rhythm player, Qazi has effortlessly transformed himself into being a session musician having two albums and a few singles under his belt with Metakix.

The switch has allowed Qazi to display a side of himself that a lot of people do not know.

"As a musician my role in both the bands is totally different. In Radius I am the more relaxed, funky, jazzed up kind of person. Whereas in Metakix I am a fully charged powerful, aggressive and extremely energetic kind of person who is ready to get it out. So it's very interesting and self-satisfactory for me in these different roles as it shows all the sides of my personality as a musician and as a person. I am also managing both the bands, which makes my role the most crucial one at both places," says the Bandra resident.

A cog in the wheel of Metakix, Qazi knows that playing for two successful bands at the same time is going to be nothing short of demanding but he is up for the challenge. "It will not be easy. I will have to schedule my priorities and time for both the bands. I have always worked in pressure and have handled it with not many difficulties. So I guess handling both the bands for me at this stage wont be a problem at all. There is so much music to be created and played in the both of my bands, which inspires me to work harder and dedicatedly. As they say everything in life is not easy, you need to work for it," he reasons.

Mumbai's generosity is Delhi's gain we say!
