Dormant Inferno-In Sanity(E.P)

DormantInfernoInSanity
For me Doom Metal has always been about massive crushing riffs played at a painfully slow pace, I always associated Doom Metal with Sleep, Electric Wizard and of course BLACK SABBATH, I really love the raw dirty guitar riffs that gives the genre its heaviness , and although I do appreciate its more atmospheric and melodic counterpart which is “Gothic Doom” I could never really call it doom , bands like KATATONIA and ANATHEMA had more in common with PINK FLOYD then any of those bands mentioned above , it was always a bit confusing for me, I tried hard to find out about why it was called doom but couldn’t really find an answer until in the end I just thought let’s just put these questions aside and just enjoy the music now that being said let’s talk about DORMANT INFERNO’s(E.P) IN SANITY.

DORMANT INFERNO is a three piece band from Mumbai and they play Goth/Doom Metal similar to bands like the ones I have mentioned above mixed with some more abrasive Death/Doom similar to Hooded Menace and Thorrs Hammer which is kind of like a fusion of the two styles of doom though not completely accurate, the band consists of a vocalist,(Gautam Shankar) guitarist( Sunny Bhambhri) and a bass player/keyboardist(Aurko Mukhopadhyay) I think the Gothic Doom elements really shine in this album due to the really sad and gloomy atmosphere that Aurko brings with his keyboard playing, the more melodic elements of the album which are brilliantly executed ,bring a feeling of horror to the sound that remind me of classics such as Frankenstein and Dracula.

Unfortunately the heavier Death/Doom side to this band doesn’t really have the same impact, the Guitars bass just don’t have that raw heavy as fuck low tuned feel to it that a Death/Doom band should have, the distorted riffs are a little too clean to be a part of a Death/Doom album. The programmed drums also seem to cause a problem; Drumming in Doom Metal is all about power and well, you can’t really get power out of a drum machine.

But when all is said and done its good to hear something different from the usual Metalcore, Djent Groove Metal bands and I really think that DORMANT INFERNO have a lot of potential and can really go far but they have to really work on themselves before they reach that stage I’ll give this one a six out of ten will definitely be looking forward to their next album.
