When I first heard the name INSANE PROPHECY, I was a little sceptical about how the band might be because quite frankly INSANE PROPHECY isn’t really a very good name for a band, it sounds like a couple of guys chatting in slang over the internet like "Doood the prophecy was insane man, it was so epic bro. Total ownage." But then I thought what’s in a name and decided to give these guys a shot and boy was I surprised!

INSANE PROPHECY is a three piece from Guwahati, Assam consisting of Xulfi Nawaz(Bass/vocals), Ifty Serwar(Drums/Vocals) and Bikash Subba(Guitars), although the band has been around for four years in the scene this is their debut EP. The band’s sound can be best described as Black Metal with strong elements of Thrash Metal and some Death Metal. They mix tremolos blast beats and really “evil” sounding guitars which are reminiscent of Modern Black Metal like OTARGOS or KEEP OF KALESSIN with the palm muted chords skank beats and fast riffing of thrash, which is not really something that I haven’t heard before(THE WRETCHED END, SKELETONWITCH), but in the case of INSANE PROPHECY, this blending creates a new kind of Black Metal, a kind which should be welcomed with spontaneous moshpits, stage diving and crowd surfing, while retaining the dark, grim and malevolent atmosphere of the genre, they somehow make it harder, faster and more pissed off then it usually is, which make perfect ingredients for a moshpit. These guys would equally fit on the bill on tour with a band like EXODUS or SLAYER or DEVOID then they would be with a Black Metal band like the ones mentioned above. The production is relatively cleaner here and not as “kvlt” as ardent fans of the genre would expect but it works just fine for me.

So when all is said and done I think INSANE PROPHECY have really done well on their first EP nearly creating a new genre which may not appeal to the Hardcore(pun intended) Black Metal fan who have a rigid idea about what Black Metal should be, but will definitely appeal to the more open minded Black Metal fan who is open to anything, but you know what? Something tells me there’s a lot more where this came from.

Recommended if you like: Skeleton Witch, The Wretched End, Mayhem, Immortal, Ortagos and the likes.

Bottom Line

THE WRETCHED END and SKELETONWITCH were good but this one takes the cake really strongly.
