"Madras" by Null Friction

nullfriction_madras

A bunch of talented young musicians, dispersed to various parts of the world to pursue their education, reunite to bring alive a vibrant band they had formed a few years back as high-school champs!!.Well you can't keep good  music down for long! Here are a host of reasons, why you should have their debut album's copy in your collection.

What piqued our curiosity about this band was the name of the album "Madras" that  had absolutely no clue what to expect from their music;so we did one thing made a "madras" playlist.Just sat back & just relaxed.

Talking about our favourite picks from  Madras,

The 1st song of the albumm "Mud" that starts with a nice Korn/Limp Bizkit kinda entry but just when you are about to label it/categorize it ,the music flows into another dimension. There are multiple influences which are evident in their music ,but so is the personal connect & the honest, unpretentious vibe about their music which we liked the most ; That's what best describes Null Friction as a band... unpredictable yet honest. Mud is the pick of the album...

"The Pind" has a hazy Soundgarden outline & yet again the song flows beautifully into a different mood altogether espically after the break …a good listen.

"Sailor" is another favourite from this album... it has a little old country style fill-ins  here n there very well phrased song .Chicks are absolutely gonna dig this song. very hummable..

"Inside Jokes" is reminiscent of "Iris".The lyrics are really cool n very hummable. There's a nice flow... the bass work & the guitar-layering are very tasteful.. in all the other songs too.

Every single song in this album is worth a listen. This is a very well-executed effort."Madras" makes us happy about the fact that good music with lyrics which have a personal connect is being churned out. The lyrics are really worth a look... espically "Mud" & "Inside Jokes".We wouldn't be surprised if this band becomes a massive success outside India. This is what good music is all about. The Song is the center of attention here , not some impossibly fast solo or some sickly technical riffs  or some arthritis inducing double- bass patterns.

The art work could be bettered, matching the vibe of the music.Besides little monologues are difficult to grasp which were included in the songs  though they do add an air of curiosity to the songs...

On a whole a must listen to album!!
