MENWHOPAUSE is a Delhi based five member outfit that was formed in 2001 by Anup Kutty, who also happens to be the former editor of the Indian edition of an International Men's Magazine. One of the first bands to distribute their music for free over the internet, MENWHOPAUSE is currently one of the premier bands of the country. One EP and two successful albums old, this Alternative Rock band is the only one till now that has been sponsored by ICCR, the cultural wing of the Government of India, to perform at Ausin, Texas, in the prestigious SXSW Festival, where they were invited to perform, which also made them the first Indian Rock band to get this honour.

Just as different as their name is, their music is too. Blending the different sub-genres of Rock music together, they produce an exclusive and distinctive sound of their own. Alternative Rock, with elements of Funk, Jazz, Psychedelic, Country embedded in it, MENWHOPAUSE does a kind of original music that appeals to a niche audience maybe, never to the Bollywood-inlclined listeners. And after productions like 2003's THE STORY BEGINS(E.P) , HOME(2006), their third venture EASY(2011) comes amidst much expectations. And MENWHOPAUSE has managed to surpass those by a huge margin, in the process sealing their position as one of the "ambassador's" of Indian Rock Music to the world, maybe after INDUS CREED/ROCK MACHINE and PARIKRAMA.

EASY features 14 splendid tracks, each unique and the album never seems to get monotonous therefore. TIME seems like this Classic Rock track, with the guitar tones matching those of the days gone by and the alternative appeal is brought in by the peppy basslines, the riffs and the drumming and the overall pattern in which the song progresses. The vocals is top notch and is the central aspect in each of the songs, how it changes tones and portrays different moods in different songs. CAN'T WE BE DREAMING is this eerie song which haunts you at times. With great musical arrangement and vocals, the song is a stand-out from this album, and seems to be influenced by RADIOHEAD and the softer side of FOO FIGHTERS.

FLOATING is this Beatles-esque song with guitaring that seems to be lifted straight from the 60s era, with influences of bands like Peter, Paul and Mary evident to some extent too. SOLITUDE is this Classic Rock type song that is nice to hear and has a World Music twist in it. PUPPET AND PAUPER is this groovy track and is to some extent, PINK FLOYD and 70s inspired, asmost of their other songs are, but then, is enjoyable to hear. LOST is the Alternative Rock track and is pretty good, again PINK FLOYD and LED ZEPPLIN inspired. SKY IS FALLING is just another track from this album and is nothing special when heard alongside other tracks. So is BRIMFUL. DOWNTOWN is this British Rock inspired track that can make you draw weak references to The VERVE, SNOW PATROL and the likes. All their songs, infact, have been studded with ambient chords and riffs and the overall feel is made to match that of the Psychedelic and Classic Rock bands of the 70s, not only PINK FLOYD or LED ZEPPLIN or THE DOORS or BEATLES. Infact various elements of various influences have been juxtaposed near-perfectly to give their sound the feel that radiates through the songs. SWEET DESPAIR has a nice guitar solo and is one of the better songs from the album. KEEP is this Alternative Rock song that is another stand-out track and is addictive. FATHER MONOLOGUE is this funky track, sounds pretty cool, and the progression sounds like it's inspired from RED HOT CHILLY PEPPERS. But nevertheless, this short song is nice to listen to. CIRCLES is again a nice song, but then such songs do not have any uniqueness in them when heard alongwith those of other Indian Rock bands like PARIKRAMA or even INDUS CREED. EASY, the title track is a really nice offering, and is another stand-out track. Soft and soothing, this song is like this journey song, one which plays in your ears while you are in a moving train maybe, watching the world move past you, but you are in a mood to just relax and take things 'easy'. The lyrics are great too and there's no silly words or emotions that's portrayed. It's mature, sometimes personal and has poetic quality.

MENWHOPAUSE has already achieved much in their decade long career in the music industry. EASY has ben released under EMI-Virgin (India), making MENWHOPAUSE one of the few Rock bands in the country, an therefore elite as well, to have bagged such a great deal. From being voted the Best Indian band(2007) in an online poll conducted by Jack Daniel's, and resultantly getting a chance to play in the Legendary Mash Festival at Tennessee to working with top-notch sound engineers and producers, MENWHOPAUSE have carved out their path well in this competitive music scene and is beyond any kind of competition now. It's only a glorious path ahead of them now to march ON.
