Album Reviews (104)

I haven’t said this often, but Indus Creed’s Evolve has been such an absolute pleasure to listen to, that I almost feel like thanking them, for this is not just a comeback album from the folks who gave India its first all-original Rock album almost quarter of a century ago, but a lesson in writing not just Rock, but any original music.

Experimental always, Susheela Raman’s base voice surely complements the folk amalgamation in her latest album; Vel. After being the only world music artist to be nominated for the mercury prize for her debut, salt rain she has now incorporated different styles which have made her latest venture fresh yet rooted.

Paradigm Shift has been around since 2008, jamming, touring, and fusing with old Hindustani and Indian Classical music and Contemporary Indian Rock music. An impressive experiment, one might say, but one that’s been tried unsuccessfully by bands who are unsure of where they stand on the genre scale. ‘Another fusion band? Ha!’ you smirk. Wait till you listen to this one, smirkers.

The word is "tasty"! Just plug in your earphones and hit the play button. Soon you will realize that you are able to taste this music.

Black Metal is a genre which has still not gained mass acceptance in India. Considering this, "Solar Deity", in the form of Aditya Mehta and Yash Pathak of "Exhumation" fame, has taken a daring step, and the outcome has been worth the risk. The Mumbai, Maharashtra based duo have come out with their debut, titled "In The Name Of Satan", which, as the name screams, is an out and out Black Metal album.
