As a citizen of Kolkata myself, I have often been amidst extraordinarily talented musicians over the years and still seem to do so every now and then. Obviously there is no lack of musical genius here, and the close proximity to the Rock capital of India has blessed it with innumerable number of amazing artists, soulful singer-songwriters and countless bands. So DARK PROJECT’s LIBERTY & ENTROPY was from my perspective under a lot of pressure to outdo and outmatch the many able and gifted bands the City of Joy has produced. So technically it would be nothing less than a monumental task to set itself apart from the madding music crowd and bring to the forefront a piece of work that is refreshingly extraordinary, brimming with talent and possessing tremendous potential for growth.
UNDYING INC. is a band that has really struggled a lot in its career, from humble beginnings when the band was heavily influenced by PANTERA to an extent where it seemed almost derivative and were often criticised for it, and seen as a weak link, to now where they have inspired many "Vicious" moshpits and have created some of the most Brutal Metal that India has heard. Keeping that in context, AGGRESSIVE WORLD DYNASTY is nothing more of an official stamp which says “UNDYING INC. has arrived.”
Alternative Rock is a nascent little creature in our culture. It’s hard to define what exactly it sounds like since the term is usually employed as an umbrella to describe a wide spectrum of musical styles. Mumbai band ROSEMARY has been a target of observation ever since they won Strawberry Fields and showed promise of becoming interesting practitioners of their own unique style of Alt Rock/ Alt Grunge. The trio have finally arrived with their first EP called THE LEGACY OF RUINED DAYS and a disappointment it certainly is not!
SWARA SUTRA's debut 3-song EP, INDULGENCE, is meant for any listener looking for some nice independent Instrumental music. A solo project of an engineering student, Sriram Ved, SWARA SUTRA believes in the freedom of painting music on an empty canvas. And with this belief, SWARA SUTRA juxtaposes different elements of music and creates a very unique sound, which is brought out in this wonderful offering from Sriram Ved and Anshul Karn, INDULGENCE.
SPOOK is an Alternative/Pop Rock act based in Mumbai. The band comprises of Akshay Deodhar (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Zain Calcuttawala (Drums/Percussion), Clavell Santiago (Violin), Anis Gandhi (Keyboard) and Sonam Lama (Bass/Vocals). The sound of the band, I must strongly point out, is very versatile. A listener is bound to look back and doubt as to whether he/she is actually listening to the same band throughout the length of the EP. The influences cited by the band are apparent in the music they make. There have been many times when I felt that the band struck very close to the GOO GOO DOLLS. Violin layers are gracefully laid out in the background of every track.
