Silver Tears-Ensnared(E.P)

EnsnaredSilverTearsReview
Following up from their debut E.P, DIRT BEYOND BEAUTY, Guwahati based Progressive/Experimental metallers SILVER TEARS recently released their second E.P titled ENSNARED. For those of you expecting new stuff, you’ll find it in the vocals - Girish Pradhan done the Vocalist cap in this one. The E.P does justice to the band’s genre Experimental in that they’ve tried a hell lot of stuff and churned out a fairly good Metal E.P– jamming in heavy spaced riffs, neatly crafted solos, decent keyboard parts, and a lot of double-bass drumming.

DIRT BEYOND BEAUTY begins melodiously, and follows straightaway with a guitar solo. The chorus has some nicely constructed riffs and the keyboard gives a whole Epic Metal feel to it, which is weirdly pleasant. The highlight of the song is definitely the middle solo which I found really good. DIRT is a *really good* start to your E.P when you have so much talent on your plate, and so many diverse genres to choose from. It has little bits of everything in it, which makes it such a good Metal track.

DRIFTER begins almost where DIRT leaves off, and a very catchy Melodic Death Metal riff in the beginning is followed by an amazing guitar solo, where the double bass of the drums also start. This solo is by far one of the best that I’ve listened to in recent times. It drifts to heavenly spaces from there on, and the vocals are much better here. The chorus is also something different than the usual. After all, a Progressive band is a Progressive band, and the composition takes on an uncommon twist in the middle which will have your ears perked up, before again going for the kill with melodious keyboarding, solos and intense drumming towards the end.

Enter EUPHO and you can feel the termination of the E.P close from the starting itself. A lot more thinking went into the construction of this song, and it reflects in the seriousness of the tone and the melody. It’s a much more Hardcore track than the rest, and over seven minutes leaves you wondering what’s going to be thrown at you next. Check out the guitar solo around the 4-minute mark, and thereafter, which is like the soundtrack of a video-game – random to the core, with a descending keyboard solo fitted somewhere in the middle, a blank, a riff here, a blank, a solo there, and again the chorus. Towards the end, it’s the slow serious part again, with a really nice guitar solo in the background.

ENSNARED depicts the variety that each of the band members has to offer, and which has been merged beautifully in each of their songs. Just one single hitch – the vocals could have been much more exciting and intense. The clean patch throughout gets a bit dull around the instrumentation. What else remains? Oh yes, the artwork! Very interesting and an improvement from their previous DIRT BEYOND BEAUTY artwork(which was pretty vague?), it is a totally entangled and trapped figure, which kinda gives you an insight into the album – "It’s going to be intense and requires you to dig deep into the music, to makesense of it". Worth a listen, this one. Good stuff by SILVER TEARS. Go buy it NOW!
