Slow Down Clown-Say Nothing(E.P)

SlowDownClownSayNothingReview
If you are looking for an album that would calm you down after a hectic day, given that you have an ear for soft country music, SLOW DOWN CLOWN should feature in your playlist. Vitek Goyel's group from Mumbai, is a very compact and nice one in the indian independent music scene. SAY NOTHING is an EP that has the capacity to take the band to a great height. Not many bands in the country at the moment do the kind of music that SLOW DOWN CLOWN does, and does so well.

SAY NOTHING(E.P) has an album art that gives you this laidback feeling, assures you that this album will deliver as a head massage to you. Infact, when listened to, anytime, this album radiates a happy energy, that will make you feel good, shed your mellowness and nod your head to the beats of the tracks. Though the songs can remind you of John Mayer or maybe COUNTING CROWS or even Alexi Murdoch, they sure are addictive. The vocals has this characteristic softness in it, that is complimented and carried so well by the accompanying music. Soft and soothing. The soft strumming of the guitars, the catchy riffs, the peppy bassline and the soft country beats, you feel like listening more and more to the album, as it grows on you gradually. And the literary aspect of the songs deserves a good compliment as well.

All the songs are great, with no particular outstanding one. HEARTSTRINGS is this soft track that has influences of John Mayer, in the vocals, the progression etc. but nevertheless, it feels nice listening to it. JUST A COINCIDENCE has this feel of Alexi Murdoch, but this is again a very beautiful track, with the mouth harmonica and acoustic guitar giving the soft voice of Goyel, company. Infact, this can be one of the outstanding tracks, though it will be unjust to pick one track out. PUNCH DRUNK LOVE is this peppy track that has a feel good factor embedded in it, and has a nice little guitar solo towards the end of the song. The title track, SAY NOTHING, is this relatively fast paced song, and is very addictive, and has this urban Alternative Rock touch to it. TWO CANDLES is also a nice song, with catchy tunes and simple words. It's hard to pinpoint any particular aspect about each song, as there is nothing spectacular about the use of instruments etc. It is all about the simplicity of the songs, its mood, its soothing power.

SAY NOTHING is a nice E.P, may seem a little monotonous if you do not have an ear for Alternative Rock music or Country Music. It reaches out to a very niche audience, and more than its mass appeal, it has quality. Both in terms of lyrics, and music- kind of perfect when heard live. Not many bands in India do the kind of music Slow Down Clown does, endorsing proper Country Music, though heavily influenced by Western mainstream counterparts.
