Shimla is a great place to relax and enjoy, I always thought of it as a tourist attraction where people come, bask in natures glory and go back to their hectic lives. Everything is peaceful and tranquil and its probably the last place that you would find Metal in right? Well guess what, you are wrong and THE EAR SPLIT are proof of the fact that there might be a pretty substantial Metal scene over there. Let’s hope we hear more from this scene in the future, for now let’s get down to business andfind out whether their CONTEMPORARY NOISE POLLUTION(E.P) has what it takes.

THE EAR SPLIT is a four piece consisting of Abhishek(guitars/vocals), Hariansh(guitars/vocals), Kamal(drums) and Anshul(bass), this E.P was produced, mixed and mastered by Keshav Dhar of SKYHARBOR. The band’s sound can be best described as Thrash Metal which is strongly influenced by Metalcore. This can be heard in the band’s breakdowns and the more melodic riffs which are injected with their fast Thrash Metal which consists of crunchy palm muted guitar riffs played over fast skank beats accompanied by blistering guitar solos. Although the band mixes two completely different genres together, it doesn’t really create a sound that is very novel, it all ends up sounding like something that has been done many times before because of the fact that it has, the Metalcore influenced thrash of AS I LAY DYING or the more similar sounding SYLOSIS, the band has an interesting concept regarding what their sound should be like but has a very mediocre approach to executing the same. The production, unfortunately suffers the same fate, everything is pretty neat and clean, but then it lacks that punch, that “Heavy as Fuck”, “In your face” quality that this album should have, everything is not as loud as it should be (and no I am not talking about brick walling).

But then for whatever it is, I guess it’s a pretty decent E.P that is still listenable and can be enjoyed once in a while, though I am in no hurry to go back to it at the moment.

Recommended if you like: SYLOSIS, AS I LAY DYING, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ARCH ENEMY and the likes.

Bottom Line

An average effort, which I guess will appeal to, fans of the above bands, as for everyone else no harm in listening to new music but enter at your own risk.
