TUNES FROM THE BIG BELLY is a very good collection of songs that take you back some fifty years to the Rock n Roll years. The songs might sound as if they are highly inspired and heavy influenced by the likes of ROLLING STONES, BEATLES, VELVET UNDERGROUND, DAVID BOWIE and BOB DYLAN, etc., but in reality the band has not tried to emulate these fatherly figures of music, and therefore earning the respect that other bands lose out on. They have captured the essence of Rhythm N Blues and reproduced it in a near perfect manner for the audience of the present. The use of vocal harmonics, the tone of the guitars, drumming and the overall appeal of the songs will impress any listener. Another aspect that stands out is that the album is not monotonous. Each of the songs sound distinctively different from the rest.
Songs that stand out include QUEEN BEE ON THE RADIO, HARD TO UNDERSTAND, NO SECRET and DOWN THE DRAIN & 8 FLOORS HIGH. But infact, all the songs are worth listening to over and over again. It is almost as if you can't get enough of the songs. Refreshing and out-of-the-mainstream-league, THE SHAKEY RAYS has offered a nice little gem and the tunes from the big belly surely can take the band higher in the independent music scene of the country.
Bottom Line
An impressive collection of Rhythm 'n' Blues music that will take you on a dream ride to the golden days of Rock 'n Roll.
