North-East is churning out young, talented bands  over the years and an addition to the region’s premier live acts ,VIRGIN CREEP, throughout their one year of journey have reached maturity.

Guwahati, Assam based three piece Experimental Death Metal outfit, ARIHANT represents ‘Destroyer of enemies as a sign of brutality’. A blend of Technical Death Metal garnished with Modern Death Metal, ARIHANT is a complete sheaf of the Brutal/Death Metal act! Started by Angshuman Hazarika(Drummer) and Pikashu(former Guitarist), the band started playing brutal stuffs and went on exploring Extreme Metal. With a new line-up on May 2011, they released their first single SELF-HATRED on June 2011. The present line-up’s are: Rituraj (Vocals/Bass), Bhaskar (Guitars) and Angshuman(Drums).

AGHOR ANDHAKAR is a Delhi based one man Black Metal project. Debut single INVADING MOTHERLAND is a pure manifestation of atmospheric ambience. While the music relates to the dark tyrannical times faced by human civilization, it also takes a sucessful attempt at showcasing man’s fervent approach to the dark times. The song opens with the sound of a person chasing down another with a horse while the person pleads the other to spare him for the last time- a short yet effective demonstration of what the overall theme of the song circles around. The solid intro is followed by the distortion layers of the guitars gradually increasing the torment – while the atmospheric vocals do much to shed light at the pain and suffering of the same. The song embraces a lot of variation- one that tends to grow on you with repeated listens . The instrumental melancholic strain makes for a jaw-breaking end.

The ethnic spirit and the global rock (stars) are back with yet another solid soundtrack. Yes I’m talking about MOTHERJANE, the band which ROCK STREET JOURNAL describes as the best act of the decade and they’re back with the OST for Amal Neerad’s movie “Anwar”. As I always thought that when concerned about the songwriting MOTHERJANE is probably the best band in the country and with the kind of lyrics in JIHAD they proved my thoughts right again. From MINDSTREET to MAYA to TRIBES OF BABEL, MOTHERJANE always gives the example of some thoughtful, soulful and brilliant songwriting and Jihad is no exception. Right from the line “I BELIEVE IN JIHAD” to the end of the track Suraj Mani is able to grab you’re heart and soul and mind with his classical yet powerful vocals. Baiju’s guitar solos are as soulful and as melodious as ever. The touch of that “ethnic spirit” and Carnatic sound is still there like any of his other solos. John proved it once again that he is one of the country’s best drummers. The support from Clyde with his bass and Deepu with his rhythms cannot be left unnoticed.

SWARATHMA, Bangalore based Urban Folk Rock band, recently released its first music video on their song PYAASI meaning ‘thirsty’. The song also features one of India’s best female vocalists, Shubha Mudgal. This video is the first in line of many more for this band that has become a matter of pride for the Indian music scenario. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor was the creative consultant for it and it was shot in Rajasthan by Pictureco, a Bangalore based firm.
