Ever wondered how METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN, OZZY & many other artists like them came into the scene of music? Ever wondered why their songs & music is worshipped globally? That’s 'cause they connect! Their music connects to the audience! Talking about the band scene in India, still it’s in the nascent stage! In spite of the amount of talent the country holds still there's hardly any impact on the global music scenario.
Talking about the music in India, it’s more of bollywood music which majorly prevails while the fantabulous music from different bands is often unheard by a humongous mob! It’s 'cause there's a monopoly in the field of music in India. An individual or a group of individuals get success & make it big when you get a shot in the B-town! We hardly know a band or two who have made it big. One major reason for this is the connection to the general public. Indeed we have a lot of potential & definitely many bands coming up but they lack the "CONNECTIVITY". The bands have to leave out the phlegm in their music. Bangalore which is known as the ‘ROCK CAPITOL’ of India & numerous other cities have some amazing stuff for the country! But they go unheard in most of the parts of India 'cause people are not used to the kind of music they enjoy or which is enjoyed globally by the METALHEADS! As a comparison if at all we look on to the success of the bands in the neighboring country they are much more successful in their endeavors towards music 'cause they link with the general audience on a very strong term called "Language". Perhaps that's one of the main reasons why they are even appreciated in India! Aptly first & foremost thing in India for a band to click amidst the general audience is by eradicating the language barrier! There are countable bands that play Hindi Rock or Indian Metal but there's a huge number of bands playing English Metal & Rock music. Indeed that's an art itself but then again the connection clause hinders the growth.
Secondly to support the band's music scene in India, there are hardly any record companies or television channels for their promotion. Media plays an important role in nurturing talent of a state. People put in a lot of effort to create music& it comes as a pain when they go unheard! Even more pathetic is that they have to promote their own music by themselves & also try to sell the records. This again accounts for the monopoly business! If we look globally many of the Hollywood flicks take their soundtrack from the albums & singles by different bands. We have many “A.R. Rahman & Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy” amidst us but they need support from the people & from the media. The Indian metal & rock scene should be globalized. As artists from overseas come and promote themselves why can't we replicate it? When we imitate the WEST in everything why music shall be left behind?
Main point is the social stigma & the structure of the society in India. Parents even if they want their children to be talented & make it big in the music industry don't want them to be associated with a band 'cause they think it spoils their lad it can get him to drugs & other things, they want their children to become engineers, doctors, lawyers etc but don't want them to make a career out in the music field especially with a band. These are some of the vulnerable issues of high concern. Today when we have entered the 21st century we still live in a box & never try to think outside it. We have created a world inside a bubble & we are happily living in it. It’s time that we break the bubble & revolutionize Indian music & take it to even greater heights! If we fail to do so we are surely wasting & gambling on the dreams, life & talent of many hopeful individuals. Let’s keep the music alive! \m/ ROCK ON!!
