When it comes to the confluence of world sounds, Susheela Raman does it like never before! The British-born Tamil singer/ songwriter is widely known and sought after as the one of a kind performer, the amalgamation of an Indian voice with Blues, Rock, and Soul and other western styles. The single RAISE UP is exemplary of just that.

SULAFEST 2012, the fifth edition of what has become a must-experience event, is bigger and better than ever! For the first time BlueFrog, India’s leading live music pioneers, come on board as festival partners. This year Sulafest will be a two day event, building on last year’s sell-out event. This “gourmet” live fest, complete with terrific food, wine & tons of other cool stuff, takes place on the 4th and 5th of February 2012 at the picturesque Sula Vineyards in Nashik.

Every once in a while, for every six metal-heads, four indie-rockers, three punk-rockers and eight odd nu-age maniacs will come a band that will be fired by the traditions of Classic Rock and feel the burning need to restore the screaming guitar licks and reverb laden drum sound of the 60's and 70's to their former glory. SOLDER from Bangalore, Karnataka is decidedly this kind of band. Bringing in layers of vocal harmony over textured guitars gives them their signature sound. While being rooted in Classic Rock traditions every once in a while they do foray into what they call ‘modern indie’ sounds as well. And that’s what makes their sound a mélange of the old and new.

We are all under the impression that there is only so little, one artist can probably compose. But seldom do we realize that it gives you the freedom to do whatever you feel like creating; after all too many cooks do spoil the broth. I was never in favour of bands anyways. It prohibits the creative storm clouds from brewing and gaining new ground and hence hinders the process of composition and out of the box thinking. Why should anyone compromise with their ideas? After all ideas are what keeps us going from day to day. Prateek Kuhad’s self-titled E.P has all the making of a true Blues or Jazz artist. Of course, it will take time to mature into a full blown Jazz musician but musical talent does not have any age, gender or race. Some artists are born with it, while some spend their whole lives searching for that iota of musical genius in them. First impressions are sometimes enough to gauge the potential and expertise of musicians and these impressions are the ones that will define the artist in the years to come.
