Bangalore has always been a haven for Brutal Death Metal and Grindcore bands like PERFORATED LIMB and GORIFIED, and has been touted by many for having a very strong Underground Metal scene. Recently however there have been bands that seem to be more inclined towards the progressive side of things, which is what I will review today. When I found out that this is a one man Progressive Metal project, I was stunned and curious at the same time while having some very steep expectations. Did it live up to them? Let’s find out.

Sickening Italy

Italian Brutal Death Metal band SICKENING have parted ways with bassist Dario and have replaced him with Massimo.

Poland has given us some of the best in Extreme Metal, be it the dark atmosphere of BEHEMOTH, the soaring brutality of VADER or the simply mad technicality of DECAPITATED. Although there have not been as many as bands from Poland as there have been from Sweden, Norway or even Germany. Those that have come out have earned a place in the history of Metal. DEIVOS is another band struggling amongst the heavyweights to have its name there, but does it succeed? That is the important question.

I have always loved Grindcore for its raw unpredictable nature that makes it exciting. In this genre things like technicality and precision are only secondary to bringing out a raw feeling of aggression through the music which is pure and unadulterated, however the more extreme subgenres such as Goregrind and Pornogrind haven’t really had the same impression on me as I thought that they were too derivative of Brutal Death Metal and Slam Death Metal, Death Grind was good but seemed a little polished and was not able to bring out the same raw emotions that Grindcore did, not until LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER arrived.

Pathology22

San Diego-based Brutal Death Metal band PATHOLOGY have completed work on their new album, AWAKEN TO THE SUFFERING, for a 13th September release. The CD was recorded at LAMBESIS STUDIOS (owned by AS I LAY DYING vocalist Tim Lambesis) in the band's hometown with producer Daniel Castleman (IMPENDING DOOM, AS I LAY DYING, WINDS OF PLAGUE). This will be PATHOLOGY's first CD to feature the group's new lineup, including vocalist Jonathan Huber and second guitarist Kevin Schwartz, who have spent time on the road with their new bandmates during recent U.S. and European tours with DEICIDE and OBITUARY.

BloodsoakedStreaming

THE DEATH OF HOPE, the brand-new album from North Carolina-based one-man Brutal Death Metal band BLOODSOAKED is now available for streaming in its entirety in the YouTube clip below.

KatalepsyUniqueLeaderRecords

UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS has announced the signing of the slamming, groove-oriented Brutal Death Metal outfit KATALEPSY to a multi-album deal. The band will enter COSMOS STUDIO later this year to begin recording a new CD for a 2012 release.

Death Metal has really changed from what it was. Until today Death Metal was always something that was meant to be raw and thus had raw production. If you look at the Death Metal of the 80’s and 90’s, you would find this trait in almost every band, be it the really old "Doom" influenced bands like AUTOPSY(who have come up with a new album I believe) and ASPHYX to the faster, more popular bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE and SUFFOCATION. Today however a certain part of Death Metal seems to be going for the really slick, sonically rich production with bands likes THE FACELESS and our very own EXHUMATION, although I do find this a little to adapt to at times as this is something I am not used to, I do enjoy this genre and both THE FACELESS and EXHUMATION are two of my favourite bands, and now so is DISFIGURING THE GODDESS.

TheMezz

Yesterday evening as I was walking down New Friends Colony, I saw that the sign board for The Mezz a pub in that area and a regular venue for Metal gigs was missing ,I asked the waiter who was standing outside Daawat Khaana (the restaurant opposite to the mezz which was in collaboration) what happened, to which he replied that it has closed, I enquired till when, to which he said forever. On this hearing this I was shocked, as now one of the premier joints for metal and the place which had pretty much introduced me to the scene was now over.

When Grindcore first started it was seen as a much more extreme form of Hardcore Punk, which was loud intense and in your face. Recently though, the genre has seen a lot of experimentation, the Progressive Mathcore/Metalcore fusion of FUCK THE FACTS, the electronic textures of THE LOCUST, the somewhat cleaner tone of ROTTEN SOUND and of course Goregrind and Pornogrind with their Brutal Death Metal tendencies. This experimentation took away some of the genres simple direct approach and made it more complex. WORMROT take the genre back to its roots, back to when it all began.
